• What does polish mean and can it be done on engineered flooring?

  Hi and thank you for contacting us with your question about cleaning and polishing of engineered wood floors.

  The first thing to note is that cleaning and polishing services are not suitable for floors that are badly damaged or where the existing sealant has worn out. This service is intended for wooden floors in relatively good condition, with no areas lacking sealant. Cleaning and polishing provide an extra coat and additional protection to the existing sealant, thereby extending the life of varnished floors before they need to be sanded and revarnished. This service can be performed on any wooden floors sealed with varnish, including engineered wood flooring, parquet flooring, and solid wood flooring.

  However, if the sealant on your floors has already worn out, cleaning and polishing will not be effective. In such cases, thorough sanding and revarnishing are required to completely remove the existing sealant and apply new varnish to the sanded floors.

• What can go wrong with DIY floor sanding?

  Hi,

  Restoring your floor can be challenging without prior sanding experience and knowledge. Floor sanding requires specific skills that are typically gained through experience. Therefore, it's advisable to leave parquet floor sanding to professionals like FloorWorks, who have expertise in handling various flooring types and can prevent costly mistakes.

After sanding the floors to a smooth finish, apply the first coat of varnish carefully, ensuring it dries fully before applying subsequent coats. Imperfections like blobs can occur if the surface isn't perfectly smooth and clean or if the old sealant isn't completely removed, necessitating an expensive re-sanding and re-varnishing.

  Additionally, note that if your parquet flooring has been sanded before, there might be limited chances for re-sanding, possibly requiring a complete floor replacement.

• What hardwax-oil products you use for re-oiling?

  In our waxing and re-oiling services we use hardwax-oil and maintenance oil from Osmo, Bona, Woca and Loba brands - are all available in matt and satin sheens. The full list floor finishes we use is available here.

• How can I pay for my floor restoration service?

  On completion of your floor renovation service you will receive an invoice for the works and we accept payment by card, bank transfer or cash.

  Payment options and our details are available with our online sales invoice.

• How many coats of lacquer are included in your service?

  For domestic floor sanding services, we apply 1 coat of primer followed by 2 coats of lacquer. The final sheen options are extra-matt, matt, satin, and gloss.

  For floor sanding in public spaces (offices, schools, church halls), we use 1 coat of primer and 3 coats of commercial-grade lacquer, with sheen options including extra-matt, matt, and satin.
