Floor sanding, gap filling of parquet flooring in Purley

Before the renovation works...

The merbau parquet flooring in this Purley house was overall looking tired and in desperate need of refinishing. During our obligation-free survey, we did detailed inspection of the floors and discussed with the client all possible options.

Our client has decided to go for floor sanding, gap filling, of 31 sqm merbau parquet flooring and finishing the floors in matt Lacquer.

How the floor restoration was completed...

Parquet flooring restoration requires many years of experience, skills and the right floor sanding equipment. Depending on the overall condition of the floors, the initial parquet floor sanding may start with coarser or medium grid. The purpose of this step is not only to remove the previous finish and get the floors to bare wood, but also to provide a excellent level throughout the entire floor. Some older parquet floors may require more thorough work at this stage.

Next stage in the process of floor restoration was the application of the gap filling. We aim to apply the resin filler with saw dust in the end of the working day, so it settles properly overnight and we can repeat it on the following morning , if required. The putty is after that removed by next stages of the floor sanding process in medium grids .

Sanding the floors with fine grids (80 - 120 gr) and a good rotary buff to the merbau timber surface with high grid buffing screens is the most important stage in the preparation of the wooden flooring for finishing.

The parquet flooring was consequently sealed with 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of Bona Mega Lacquer in matt sheen with another light screen buff between the coats, for an excellent final touch to the finish.

Did you know this about merbau flooring?

Merbau has dark rich red colour and sometimes, our clients will ask us to whiten it or "bleach" the merbau floors. We do not do that, to merbau. We tried it, but it's stubborn and we recommend to keep you merbau floors in the natural colour domain.
