• Should I use varnish or oil for my original pine floorboards?

  Hi and thank you for the question regarding the choice of sealant for pine floorboards.

  Pine is a softwood, and while it is possible to seal pine with both lacquers and hardwax oils, we always recommend using a hardwearing varnish when sanding and sealing this type of flooring. The reason is that pine tends to absorb oils, resulting in lower protection and durability for floorboards sealed with hardwax oils compared to those sealed with varnish. This is especially important when staining is required. Therefore, we recommend sealing stained pine floorboards with hardwearing varnish for better protection and durability.

• Do you do restoration of stairs and banisters?

  Yes, we would be more than happy to help with the restoration of your stairs and banisters. Bear in mind that stairs and banisters restoration is a more time consuming compared to restoration of other areas of wooden flooring as majority of the work needs to be done manually. It also requires a great deal of care and attention to details, therefore it is always a good idea to leave this to a professionals like Floorworks™ Sanding Company instead of trying to do it yourself.

• Can staining be done on wooden stairs?

  Yes, wooden floors and wooden stairs can be both stained in the same way. Once the area is sanded to a smooth finish we can apply several samples of different colours on your stairs so you can choose the colour that best matches teh rest of your flooring.

• Is there a minimum charge for a small job or small area?

  Yes, as per our Terms & Conditions there is a minimum charge per booking, which varies on type of services.

• Do you provide help with furniture?

  Yes, our team is available to help to move larger pieces of furniture out of the areas or we can complete the works in stages, in case the furniture cannot be moved out of the area. Staging of restoration works will usually add an extra day (or more) and therefore a surchase is applicable.

• How many coats of oil are included in your service?

  Our sanding and oiling service includes 2 coats of clear hardwax-oil or 1 coat of colour oil followed by 1 coat of clear oil. Ocassionally we can increase the number of coats depending on the timber species we are sealing.
